At the time of writing, 2000 Wraps are on their way to the border area between Turkey and Syria where there has been a massive displacement of the population because of the war. The Wraps will be distributed by World Vision personnel who are working in the area. World Vision has been a long time partner with Wrap with Love by collecting, transporting and distributing 78,000 Wraps over the last 10 years to countries in Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe.
So far this year we have received 16,998 completed wraps plus 25,809 squares. Thanks to the hundreds of volunteers who continue to support our 23 year old project to relieve cold humanity.
The 2016 round of Knit-Ins has now finished and many groups continue to meet regularly. Click on the 'Knitting Groups' button to find group near you.
One of our warehouse volunteers 'Zulma' has instigated a new knitting group at the new Rockdale Library, 446 Princes Highway, meeting on 3rd Mondays 10am to 12noon and 1st Wednesdays 5 - 7pm.
Wrap with Love had another great year in 2015 having distributed a total of 31,996 Wraps through a variety of Aid Agencies. This brought the total of Wraps donated to since our inception in 1992 to a staggering 414,065 Wraps sent to over 60 countries. This truly a mammoth effort by the hundreds of craft workers all around Australia who diligently hand knit all the squares and Wraps in groups, in community centres and in homes.
So far this year (2016) we have sent 600 Wraps to the Philippines, 500 to Fiji after their tornado, 1000 to Eastern Europe and 2100 through World Vision to other destination.
World Vision picked up 3,000 wraps from the warehouse on Friday 23rd October. They will be delivered to people in need in Burundi, Swaziland, Lesotho and Rwanda. They are often given to new mothers and their babies. As you can imagine, 3,000 Wraps take up a lot of room and one of the hardest things for us is having them delivered safely to their destinations. We thank World Vision for their tremendous support of our work. And of course, we thank all the fantastic knitters who make it all possible with their time, creativity and generosity towards those in need.
We were recently sent us some pictures of people who received our wraps from Bosnia, Herzegovina.
And some of the lovely people in Moldova enjoying the warm wraps sent to them.
And also it is wonderful to see our wraps being used all the way over in Ukraine.
